Regional Housing Limited (RHL) has received top Australasian honours for its innovative Specialist Disability Accommodation in Bundaberg.
The AHI Award for Leading Housing Development Project (Australasia) was presented to Regional Housing Limited at the AHI (Australasian Housing Institute) Professional Excellence in Housing Gala Awards Dinner in Sydney last Wednesday (29th November) in recognition of the innovative Specialist Disability Accommodation projects completed by RHL between May 2016 and January 2017.

RHL was selected from 10 Australian and New Zealand state finalists to take out the award which recognises new thinking within the sector and seeks to promote initiatives that have led to significant change or improvements within the community and the greater social housing sector.
Regional Housing Limited CEO Brett Hanna is understandably proud of the achievement. “It’s an enormous accomplishment for our relatively small, regional organisation to win an award at this level. It’s also humbling, and a real honour to be judged the best in our sector by our peers and industry professionals, not just at a national level, but within the greater Australasian arena”.
Mr Hanna went on to say that “While this award is great for RHL, for QLD and for Bundaberg, the most rewarding part of these projects has been in seeing individuals living with disability and their families’ gain greater freedom, independence and a higher quality of life”.
RHL’s award winning Specialist Disability Accommodation delivers outstanding safety and security benefits, along with adaptable, accessible and energy efficient building design, customisable home automation features and an integrated technology infrastructure which allows for the installation of assistive technologies that meet the specific needs of residents.
Practical design features such as accessible, adjustable kitchens, raised power points, LED lighting, accessible bathrooms, wider hallways, and step free paths of travel combine with assistive technology features like movement activated lighting, smart webcam doorbells with remote unlocking and iPad control of integrated functions to provide a truly unique and empowering living experience.
