New Homes Open for Bundaberg Families in Need
Sixteen vulnerable families in Bundaberg now have the keys to safe, secure homes, following the official opening of a brand-new social housing development in Kalkie, QLD.
The project, delivered by Regional Housing, will provide much-needed stability for people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness and offers a supportive environment designed to help families rebuild their lives.
Funded with support from the Queensland Government, the development highlights the powerful impact of strong partnerships between government and community housing providers in addressing Queensland’s housing challenges.
Regional Housing’s Chief Operations Officer, Hannah Scott, said the development represents more than just new buildings – it represents fresh starts for local families.

“These homes will be truly life-changing for families who are doing it tough. This is about security and finally having a place where they can feel safe and begin to move forward,” Ms Scott said.
“We are proud to work alongside the Queensland Government and our community partners to deliver housing that has the power to change the course of a person’s life and restore dignity, hope and a sense of belonging.
“Every set of keys we hand over represents a new beginning – a stable foundation for children to grow, families to heal, and people to plan for the future with confidence.”
Ms Scott said the Kalkie project reflects Regional Housing’s growing role in tackling housing demand across regional Queensland.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett MP said “Community Housing Providers play a vital role in delivering practical solutions, and the and the Crisafulli Government is proud to partner with providers like Regional Housing who are on the ground making a real difference for local families every day”.
“These 16 units will provide stability and security for residents, including seniors, young people and those living with disability,” he said.
“It’s about ensuring vulnerable Queenslanders have a roof over their head and a safe place to call home.”
The Bundaberg development forms part of Regional Housing’s boarder commitment to expand social and affordable housing across regional Queensland, creating lasting benefits for individuals, families, and communities.
