How To Spot a Scam?
Unfortunately, scams are everywhere. Scams can reach us through text messages, email, phone calls and on social media.
Many look convincing but often carry the same warning signs:
- Urgent language like “You must act NOW”
- Threats to be arrested or reported to the Government if you don’t pay immediately.
- Requesting unusual payment methods like gifts cars, wire transfers or cryptocurrency.
- Requesting personal information like bank details or your card number.
- A link to a site you’ve never seen before or one that has been sent in a text or email.

Suspect You’ve Been Scammed?
If you think you may have been targeted or have already provided money or personal information to a scammer, it’s important to act quickly.
- Stop all contact.
- Secure your personal accounts by calling your bank directly.
- Change your passwords.
- Report the scam to Scamwatch.
- Monitor your accounts.
If in doubt – check it out!
Talk to a trusted person about what happened. There’s never anything wrong with taking a moment to verify a link, calling your bank or ending a call if something doesn’t feel right. Being targeted by a scam is not a reflection of intelligence or awareness. Scammers are highly skilled at manipulating trust. Acting quickly and reporting the incident can help protect both you and others in the community.
